21-year-old biker injured in road rage in Jogeshwari
A 21-year-old biker was injured after crashing into a divider in Mumbai when a car abruptly cut him off following an argument with the driver.
MUMBAI: A 21-year-old biker was injured when he crashed into a divider after being abruptly cut off by a car following a tiff with the driver in Jogeshwari on Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place when the biker, identified as Fardeen Shah, was returning to his home in Jogeshwari East from Jogeshwari West through Thackeray Bridge around 2 pm.
According to the statement given by Shah to the police, he first encountered the black Mercedes while trying to get on the bridge. “The car’s indicator did not suggest that the vehicle intended to climb the bridge and we had a close shave. When we both crossed the JVLR signal and reached the Western Express Highway, I called the driver out for his dangerous act,” he said.
When confronted, the car driver abused Shah, the biker claimed, adding that the four-wheeler then sped off in another direction. “Before going away, he cut me off violently and I crashed into the road divider headfirst. I sustained injuries on my head, legs and hands,” the complainant told the police.
Shah then called his family, who took him to a hospital where he underwent CT scan and other tests. Shah added that his motorbike was completely smashed in the incident.
The Jogeshwari police have booked the unidentified car driver under sections 279 (rash and negligent driving), 337 (endangering the life of another through a rash or negligent act), 427 (property damage due to mischief) and 504 (insulting someone intentionally to provoke them) of the Indian Penal Code as well as the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
