Book Lovers Day 2023: Since humans walked the earth, there has been an urge to document their experiences, thoughts and imaginations. From carvings on stone tablets to the recent electronic devices used to read, write and transport us to the world of the unknown, books and the love for books have come a long way. Books are our gateway to the world of imagination, perspectives and thoughts. They help us to stretch our minds and make space for newer experiences, they open up a world for us that we did not know existed, and they help us to distract ourselves from reality and go into the world created by the author.

Every year, Book Lovers Day is celebrated with a whole lot of pomp and grandeur to celebrate the joy of learning, the immense pleasure of reading and the urge to seek knowledge through books. Books are our best friends as they help us to grow and learn. Be it fiction, or non-fiction or informative books, these printed words tightly binded together can make us travel the world without moving an inch.

Every year, Book Lovers Day is celebrated on August 9. Even though the origin of the day is unknown, it is celebrated by book lovers as a day to read and relax.

History:

In 1436, the printing press was invented in Germany by Johannes Gutenberg with the prime intention of printing Bibles. However, soon the press began to be used for printing other things – one of them was books. The printing press, typewriter and computer, throughout history, has contributed immensely to the way books are perceived, printed, and marketed.

Significance:

There are no side effects or ill effects of reading. Reading helps us to expand our minds and make space for newer experiences to happen to us. They also help us to think further, deeper and with fresh perspectives. This age-old hobby is a favourite pastime, favourite way of learning, and favourite way of taking ourselves away from reality, even if it means for some time. This day is celebrated by book lovers to bring back the habit of reading and enjoying books for the sole purpose of learning and seeking knowledge.
