Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg: The two tech giants became direct rivals last month after the Meta owner launched Twitter-like platform ‘Threads’.

After Elon Musk shared the details of his potential in-person fight with Mark Zuckerberg on Sunday, announcing that it would be streamed on his social media site X (formerly Twitter), the Meta owner took a dig at 'X' on his rival site 'Threads'.

Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X,” Musk wrote in a post on the 'X' platform. “All proceeds will go to charity for veterans," he added.

In response, Zuckerberg shared a screenshot of Musk's post on ‘Threads’ and remarked “Shouldn't we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?”

Zuckerberg's scathing dig referred to a series of problems 'X' has been facing since Musk took over the platform last year. These included massive layoffs, reinstating previously suspended right-wing accounts, a chaotic verification badge system on the platform among others, which led several advertisers to turn elsewhere.

‘Cage fight’

The conversation started off as a joke in June when the news of Threads' launch surfaced online. Musk had taken a dig at Zuckerberg's saying “I'm sure Earth can't wait to be exclusively under Zuck's thumb with no other options…”

When a user asked Musk to be careful since Zuckerberg is enthusiastic about Brazilian jiu-jitsu – a form of Mixed Martial Arts; the X owner replied ""I'm up for a cage match if he is lol."

Zuckerberg's Meta launched its Twitter-like Threads platform in early July, bringing the two billionaires in direct competition with each other. The two tech giants have clashed over the years on issues ranging from politics to artificial intelligence.

Musk bought the social networking site for $44 billion in October last year and has introduced a series of changes in a bid to turn it “profitable”; however the launch of Threads has added to its challenges.

The latest change on the platform was its rebranding from Twitter to ‘X’ last month. Musk said he aims to ultimately turn it into “the everything app”.
