Radicals try to burn down San Francisco consulate
The attack on India's consulate in San Francisco and threats to senior diplomats in Australia, Canada, and the US are seen as coordinated actions by pro-Khalistan groups. Violent Khalistani activists attempted to burn down the consulate in San Francisco to avenge the killing of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. The incident has been brought to the attention of US national security and diplomatic apparatus, which has launched an immediate investigation and increased security at the consulate. India is cooperating with the investigation and has shared CCTV footage and information on active Khalistani groups. Pro-Khalistan groups have also issued posters with threats against senior Indian diplomats in Australia, Canada, and the US. Indian security agencies are working closely with their counterparts to counter the activities of Khalistani groups, and they are calling for arrests and pre-emptive measures by US authorities to prevent future attacks.

However, there appears to be some openness in Washington, as President Biden and Prime Minister Modi discussed the issue and emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts to address global challenges. The joint statement during Modi's visit also indicated the possibility of greater financial commitment by sovereign countries to support the bank's expanded mandate.
