Rohit Sharma's blockbuster reaction on Tilak Varma's 'Samaira' celebration after maiden fifty in IND vs WI 2nd T20I

For the first time ever in T20I history, Team India suffered two consecutive defeats against West Indies in a bilateral series. With no Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who were both there in the ODI squad, the Hardik Pandya-led side, which began India's preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, succumbed to a four-wicket loss in the opener and two-wicket loss in the second match to stand on the verge of an unthinkable series defeat. However, there has been one big positive for the struggling Men in Blue as debutant Tilak Varma produced back-to-back impressive shows in the contest.

Handed his debut cap in the first match in Trinidad last Thursday, Tilak, who bagged a spot in the squad on the back of a stellar run in IPL over the last few seasons, scored a blazing 39 to provide some momentum in India's chase of 152. He was in fact India's top scorer in an otherwise horror batting show from the tourists.

In the second game, he continued his sublime form to score his maiden international fifty amid his teammates failing to read the sluggish Guyana conditions. After bringing up his first ever fifty, which made him the second-youngest India batter to the feat after Rohit, the 20-year-old broke into a certain celebration.

While the commentators had no answer to it as to what it implied, Tilak later explained that he dedicated his fifty to Rohit's daughter Samaira.

"It was towards Sammy, Rohit bhai's daughter," he told reporters after India's match against the West Indies. "I am very close to Sammy. I had promised her that whenever I will score a century or a fifty, I will do a celebration for her," he added. The India skipper, who is presently in the USA for ICC World Cup trophy tour duty, later reacted to the celebration by sharing the picture of it as an Instagram story with clapping emoticons.

The youngster later revealed that he has been in constant touch with the veteran India batter, whom he has known since being picked for the Mumbai Indians squad in IPL 2022. “Rohit Sharma is a support system for me. He helps me to improve my game, he guides me on how to perform in international matches. I am more inspired by Rohit Sharma, he helps me learn a lot. He taught me a lot at Mumbai Indians,” Tilak said at the post-match press conference.
