Adani Energy Solutions secures $1bn financing for HVDC link project in Mumbai

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has secured financing for its $1 billion green High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link project in Mumbai. The project aims to supply more renewable power to the city while supporting its rising electricity demand. AESL has achieved $700 million financial closure with nine international banks for the HVDC transmission link between Kudus and Aarey in Mumbai. Construction is set to begin in October 2023. The link will ensure uninterrupted supply of renewable power to Mumbai, which is facing transmission capacity constraints and a fast-rising energy demand.

Yemeni fishing vessel found adrift 160 km from state coast

Authorities in Yemen and the owner of the boat confirmed that the boat Al Azher-1 was on passage from Socotra Port to Al Shihir Port in Yemen and suffered propulsion failure off Socotra. Five crew onboard were rescued by another fishing boat on June 30

For the first time, coastal police to get own jetty near Mazgaon docks

The coastal wing of the Mumbai police will get its own dedicated jetty at Lakda Bunder, costing ₹34 crore, to improve patrolling in the Arabian Sea. A second jetty at Worli is also planned. The move comes after the police were given high-speed boats post the 26/11 terror attacks, but had no jetty to board from. The new precinct will also have a boat-repairing yard, workshop, and boat-parking yard. The Mumbai police have plans to buy Immediate Support Vessels in the future.

Prime govt plot at Juhu sought to be monetised by BSNL

According to the notification issued on July 31, the land near BSNL wireless station, next to Podar International School in Santacruz, already has government buildings, staff quarters and an existing office on part of the land and “(since these) are being used for the designated purpose as shown in the said Development Plan, the applicant’s request regarding deletion of the said designations for that portion of land cannot be considered”

Work to commence on new MLA hostel at Nariman Point

The state government in Mumbai is finally beginning work on the Manora MLA hostel, which has faced significant delays and cost escalations. The project is estimated to cost ?1266 crore, up from ?853 crore in 2018. The hostel is being handled by Larsen & Toubro and will consist of two towers with 40 and 28 storeys each. The previous four towers were demolished due to poor construction.

BMC plans three-star hotel, convention center, transportation hub at defunct octroi nakas

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to set up two interstate bus terminals at Dahisar and Mankhurd octroi nakas in order to decongest city roads. The BMC is also considering a convention center and hotel in Mankhurd and a transportation and commercial hub in Dahisar. The consultant's report suggests various facilities such as exhibition centers, restaurants, and parking lots, as well as transportation-related activities like CNG stations and charging stations for electric vehicles. The BMC aims to make the project financially self-sustainable and generate revenue through lease/rent.

Landslide victims of Taliye yet to get houses from government

In the torrential rains on July 22, 2021, 89 villagers of Taliye lost their lives on account of a landslide in the Kondalkarwadi and Boudhawadi areas. Five more hamlets also had to be relocated along with these two, as they were on the fault line and could have faced landslides later

At present, 25 families of Taliye village are living in 25 containers which were transported from Mumbai as temporary accommodation. One container is being used as a school. The district official said that other families had moved to Mahad, Mumbai and Surat. (Hindustan Times)

State derecognises College of Physicians and Surgeons courses

The state government of Mumbai has derecognised all courses run by the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS) due to several deficiencies found by the medical education department. To compensate for the loss, the government plans to increase 800 Diplomate of National Board (DNB) seats through various hospitals. The CPS courses were diploma courses and not post-graduate.
